The Working Man

The clink of coins as they pass from hand to hand

Sly smiles hidden to unsuspecting eyes

Gathering around an endless table, joining to form a band

Spewing an intolerable number of lies

Beneath them lie the pillars that form the foundation of their world

Groveling and bending to their every will

Cracked, roughened hands are their reality

Meaningful lives turned meaningless up until their bodies lie still
