but part of me wanted to provoke your tears

i tried to hurt you but it killed me instead

the tears i wanted to be yours

ricocheted back to me

i left you earlier

you’re too emotionally mature

i wanted to be that same weight on your shoulders

that you are on mine

leaving was hard

but knowing that it hurt you the same as it did me

would have been a cruel comfort.
