A Not-So-American American
You smile and laugh
Eyes filled with delight
While we watch from too close
But stay silent in fright.
And while we laugh along
And act with fear
You don’t see that
You are the reason
We won’t come too near.
You call us slurs
And mock our design
But when it comes to your fashion,
We’re just a new trend,
Something nice for the eye.
So why do you ridicule us?
While we’ve helped you
Through and through?
You’re only making yourselves look
Like those who mock
Won’t be missed by
Those who rue.
